Lucas Edson – University of Wisconsin Stout, Technology Education
Scholarship amount
- PMA Educational Foundation: $750
- Twin Cities District: $1,500
- Total: $2,250
Lucas Edson is studying technology education at the University of Wisconsin Stout, aiming to teach students the fundamentals of machining and manufacturing through hands-on activities and real-world examples. Teaching technology education has allowed Lucas to develop his skills and provide opportunities for others to develop theirs.
After Lucas graduates with his undergraduate degree this fall, he plans to pursue a master’s degree in Career and Technical Education. CTE provides opportunities for students to engage in work-based learning and develop essential skills in an industrial setting such as PMA. Lucas’s biggest goal while pursuing his degree is to help guide others toward the path of success. He plans to apply the skills he has learned to teach others and help them formulate a potential career that matches their interests.
Lucas has worked at Hallberg Marine in Wyoming, MN, as a boat rigging technician since 2020. He also is employed as a lab supervisor and CNC machinist at the Research and Development Rapid Prototyping lab in the University of Wisconsin Stout. Lucas has numerous volunteer experiences, including mentoring First Robotics teams for middle and high school, and judging Skills USA competitions.
Lucas’s goal for his job in the schools will be to develop the fundamental knowledge that students need to be successful. This will help the manufacturing industry grow by giving students classroom experiences in manufacturing, production, machining, woodworking, welding and more, while allowing the students to develop the skills needed to be successful in a future career after they graduate.
Lucas will be student teaching next semester and participating in an unpaid co-op that relates directly to manufacturing and machining. He is appreciative of the opportunities he has been given and is striving to develop his career while also providing opportunities for others to start theirs.
Good luck with your future, Lucas!
