PMA Mid-Atlantic Deep Draw Seminar and Bruderer Plant Tour

next event

Wednesday, May 14, 2025
Ridgefield, NJ

The PMA Mid-Atlantic District invites you to attend a day of presentations from Pete Ulintz and Invernizzi as well as a tour of Bruderer Machinery, Inc.’s New Jersey facility.

Avoiding Self-Inflicted Deep Drawing Problems with Pete Ulintz
Troubleshooting deep drawing problems can be a frustrating experience. For any given problem there can be multiple causes and potentially twice as many solutions. Sophisticated troubleshooting tools are available, including: Circle Grid Analysis (CGA), Forming Limit Diagrams (FLD), Finite Element Methods (FEM), Statistical Deformation Control (SDC), and Design of Experiments (DOE). Unfortunately, many deep draw problems must be solved during production runs when it often is not practical to use analytical tools and methodologies. In these cases, problem solving can be enhanced with a deeper understanding of material properties, mechanics of deformation and material flow.

This presentation will address:
• The effects of tooling geometry on drawability
• Myth-busting (outdated) rules-of-thumb
• Important material property considerations
• Understanding and controlling metal flow
• Identifying root cause (stretching vs. drawing)
• Common problems and potential solutions
