Join us for PMA’s Quality Professionals Roundtable! Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange views, share experiences, discuss new quality system requirements and methodologies with peers, establish relationships and receive information on new quality standards and technology.

Herman Tang, Eastern Michigan University
In this presentation, Herman will share his insights into the role of quality in both business and manufacturing system performance. He will explain how quality attributes can be translated into operational performance and explore the relationship between quality and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). This will include highlighting both the direct and subtle influences. Furthermore, he will explain the methodology to estimate improved OEE and introduce the concept of throughput accounting. The aim of Herman’s presentation is to inspire quality professionals to adopt a comprehensive, systemic perspective, thereby recognizing the critical importance of quality in business and manufacturing operations, and its contribution to overall business success.

When America learned about the teams that our Japanese competitors were using to improve processes and reduce costs, our companies rushed to copy them.  This has not been easy to accomplish.  A number of pitfalls have arisen in the 40 years since.  This presentation will identify the common pitfalls that teams face and offer suggestions to address them.

SPEAKER

Wayne DeMarco, Industry Quality Consultant
Wayne Wayne DeMarco, MBA, CQE (ASQ retired), is a retired business professional who had a working career that spanned 46 years with the last 33 years in the quality management field. He spent 40 years in the steel business working for Republic, LTV and ArcelorMittal Steel, four years working for the Maynard Company as a quality manager, and one year with the General Electric Audio Electronics Products Department building stereo systems. Wayne was also a trained lead auditor for TS16949:2016, TS 16949:2005, and QS-9000. Additionally, he has also taught the Certified Quality Refresher Class for the Cleveland ASQ Chapter since 2005 and has taught other quality classes for the Polaris Career Center. 

Brian Malloy, Owner, Process Performance LLC
Brian Brian Malloy is a seasoned continuous improvement leader with more than 20 years of experience driving transformative change across diverse industries. He is the owner of Process Performance LLC, a lean consulting firm that provides expert lean consulting services and training across all sectors. Renowned for his proficiency in lean methodologies, Brian specializes in identifying and implementing projects that optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance organizational performance.

In addition to his consulting work, Brian serves as a lean instructor at the University of Akron, where he shares his expertise with professionals seeking to implement lean manufacturing and lean for business processes. Known for his engaging teaching abilities, he has inspired countless individuals and teams to embrace lean principles, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within their organizations.

Herman Tang, Ph.D., MBA, Professor, School of Engineering, Eastern Michigan University
Herman Dr. Herman Tang is a distinguished professor in the School of Engineering at Eastern Michigan University. He has imparted knowledge by teaching nine graduate courses in quality and has been overseeing the Master of Science in Quality Management program, which includes the Lean Six Sigma Certificate, since 2015. Prior to joining EMU, he accumulated more than 16 years of experience in vehicle assembly manufacturing at Chrysler (now known as Stellantis). Dr. Tang is the author of five technical books. He earned his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and obtained an MBA in Industrial Management from Baker College.

Mark Netzel, Corporate Director of Quality, Bear Diversified
Mark Mark Netzel is the corporate director of quality at Bear Diversified located in Cleveland, OH. He has more than 30 years of manufacturing quality assurance/control experience and has worked in roles as a press operator, quality inspector, quality engineer, quality manager, director and vice president. Mark has been involved with quality systems development, root cause/corrective action development and all aspects of manufacturing quality from company objectives, strategic planning and employee training among others.

Mark has been the education chair for the Cleveland Section American Society for Quality (ASQ) since 2000 and has also worked as course instructor in many areas. Mark was a speaker/presenter at the ISO World Conference in 2018 (Las Vegas), the 2019 and 2021 FABTECH Shows in Chicago as well as at the Precision Metalforming Association's Quality Roundtables in previous years. He holds eight different quality certificates through the ASQ, holds two associates degree in business management and purchasing management/supply chain.
